Experimental hot sauces and growing your dream - June 2019

Hi there,


Hope your summer is off to a great start! I’ve been seeing lots of pictures and sensing excitement from folks planting their pepper seedlings. It’s a fun time of year to dream up and experiment with new hot sauce recipes.

I just made an experimental version of my first fermented hot sauce. Have you ever made a fermented hot sauce? I’m going to be sharing experiences and tips in an upcoming post and would love some insights from folks that make fermented sauces.

  

I try a lot of new hot sauces each month and don’t pick favorites often, but Grand Traverse (GT) Sauces Company makes some damn good hot sauce. You can try their sauces in our June Craft Hot Sauce subscription box, but Mark and Ashley, founders of Grand Traverse, also have a great story that you can read about here

 

Last month I also had the chance to sit down and record a conversation with Sufia from Silly Chilly Hot Sauce. Sufia quit her job in the fashion industry to go all-in on making a mission-driven hot sauce company in Queens. As you’ll learn from the conversation on our podcast, it wasn’t easy, but she has no regrets, and the business is doing great! Silly Chilly along with Facepunch Foods based in Minnesota will also be in our June subscription box.

 

 

Before I sign off, I thought I’d share a preview of what’s to come next month. It’s a video of a feat we’ll be breaking down in great detail on an upcoming podcast. It was a fun interview going inside the mind of Greg from Inferno Farms who holds the Guinness World Record for the most Carolina Reaper pepper consumed in one minute!

Gathering and sharing among the craft hot sauce community - November 2021

Hope you’re enjoying your week as we ease into the winter months. In the past couple of newsletters I’ve described the hustle and bustle of the chili pepper harvest season. I feel like the mania that built up during summer peaked a couple weeks ago at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo.

The event was everything we hoped for with lots of engagement with hot sauce enthusiasts and makers. We gave out more samples of Craic Sauce over a two day period than ever before, receiving lots of positive feedback, especially with our Brian Boru’s Curry sauce.
